Equipment & Home/Vehicle Renovations

Canadian Tire Jump Start Program
Canadian Tire JumpStart is a charitable program that helps kids in financial need aged 4 to 18 participate in organized sport and recreation activities. The program works with community organizations to form local Chapters that identify and approve the children who receive support. If you would like to apply for your child to receive support, Canadian Tire JumpStart accepts applications from eligible families twice per year: 1) the last 2 weeks in January; and 2) the last 2 weeks in July.

Easter Seals
Child must be registered first with Easter Seals (to qualify, must have a physical diagnosis). Easter Seals will look at the costs of renovations, bath/toilet aids, mobility aids as well as funds for both their residential camp and local day camps.

Home Depot
Handled by each local store. May be able to provide labour and/or materials to assist families. Contact the store closest to you for details.

Muscular Dystrophy Association
Must be registered first (to qualify, must have a neuromuscular disorder that has been included by MDA). Some assistance may be available.

Ontario Federation for Cerebral Palsy - Assistive Devices Program
Available for any child or adult with CP in Ontario. Maximum funding is $2500/yr and cannot exceed 25% of total cost of item.. Funding available for communication & writing aids, feeding equipment, orthotic devices, respiratory equipment, mobility aids, bathroom aids & home accessibility aids.

Ontario March of Dimes - Home & Vehicle Modification Program
The Home & Vehicle Modification Program (HVMP) was established by the Ministry of Community and Social Services in 1999, and is administered by March of Dimes. HVMP provides funding for basic home and/or vehicle modifications. By reducing or eliminating life safety risks, these modifications enable children and adults with mobility restrictions to continue living in their homes, avoid job loss, and participate in their communities.

Presidents Choice Children's Charity
Applicants must write a letter themselves explaining how it will help child & family, provide 3rd party letter & proof of total household income (cannot exceed $70,000 net). Maximum funding is $20,000 but will be awarded based on availability of funds & decision of board.

Reach for the Rainbow
Reach for the Rainbow serves children and youth with disabilities who are living at home. To attend camp with 1:1 support through Reach for the Rainbow, children and youth must have a documented developmental and/or physical disability, which affects day-to-day functioning. ADD, ADHD, LD alone do not constitute eligibility.

Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program for Persons with Disabilities (RRAP-Disabilities)
This program helps low-income homeowners and landlords to pay for repairs to modify homes to make them accessible to persons with disabilities. This program is offered through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to help Canadians choose housing and to improve their housing situation.

Tuppy's Children's Foundation
Available through the UPS stores. Families must go to their local store and discuss their need with an Associate. The store has to "sponsor" them and provide the application. They have an income guide.

Service Clubs
Families can also local service clubs for specific support.

The War Amps - CHAMP Program
The CHAMP Program is able to provide financial assistance to child amputees and their families. CHAMP provides financial assistance for: artificial limbs, recreational limbs, travel to prosthetic facilities.

Angels with Autism
This program aim is to help families with small expenses that no other agencies would cover, for example sensory objects, visual aids.

For the Love of a Child
This foundation is concerned with improving the quality of life for children with special needs living in Durham Region. Their mandate is to help families in need, through financial assistance and to encourage community understanding. They do not have a webpage but can be contacted by phone: 905-668-0072.

President's Choice Children's Charity
This charity is dedicated to helping children 18 years of age and under who are physically or developmentally challenged. The funds received are based on family income.

The Jennifer Ashleigh Foundation
This foundation assists children who are chronically or seriously ill, are 21 years of age or under and whose permanent residence is in Ontario. Family income has an impact on granting decisions. The funds received are based on family income.

Government Funding

Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities
(ACSD) program of the Ministry of Children and Youth Services provides help to parents to assist with some of the extra costs of caring for a child who has a disability. The purpose of the benefit is to help children who have disabilities live as normal a life as possible at home and in the community. In order to qualify for this program, financial and medical criteria must be met.

Assistive Devices Program
This site outlines the financial assistance available for various devices from wheelchairs to hearing aids.

Cleft Lip and Palate/Craniofacial Service
Professionals on the Cleft Lip and Palate/Craniofacial team at Bloorview assess and treat children and youth from across the province that have conditions that affect their teeth and facial structure including cleft lip, cleft palate. Services are provided by speech-language pathologists, a social worker and a neuropsychologist, who work in conjunction with dental and medical specialists, including audiologists, plastic surgeons, and ear-nose-throat specialists.

Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)
This program, through the Ministry of Community and Social Services, is designed to meet the unique needs of people 18 or older with disabilities who are in financial need, or who want and are able to work and need support. The program has two components: income support and employment support.

Registered Disability Savings Plan
This website gives information on the Registered Disability Savings Plan.

Special Services At Home (SSAH)
A program of the Ministry of Children and Youth Services helps children with developmental or physical disabilities and adults with a developmental disability to live at home with their families by providing funding on a time-limited basis to address individual needs. With this funding, families can purchase supports and services which they could not normally provide themselves and are not available elsewhere in the community.

TaxWise
This site offers a free, no obligation, tax review to determine if there are any disability or medical tax credits or medical expense deductions that have been overlooked, ignored or not maximized.

The Children in Need of Dental Treatment Program (CINOT)
If you require financial assistance for your child's dental care (14 years of age and under), The Children in Need of Dental Treatment Program (CINOT) was introduced by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to provide a public health "safety net" for elementary school children who have dental conditions needing urgent care. The CINOT program provides a basic level of dental care to eligible children.

Trillium Drug Program - Ministry of Health
The Trillium Drug Program (TDP) is intended for Ontario residents who have a valid Ontario Health Card and who have high prescription drug costs in relation to their net household income.

Incontinence Supplies Grant Program
This program administered by Easter Seals Ontario, is a program fully funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care for children ages 3-18 with chronic disabilities (physical or developmental) that result in incontinence or retention problems lasting longer than six months requiring the use of incontinence supplies.

A World of Dreams Foundation Canada
This is a non-profit organization based in Montreal, Quebec that grants dreams to critically, chronically and terminally ill children across Canada. A World of Dreams Foundation Canada differs from other foundations by granting dreams not only to terminally ill children, but also by addressing critically and chronically ill children who also need hope inspiration and the power to know that dreams can become reality.

The Golden Griddle Children's Charities
This charity grants the wishes of terminally ill and severely disabled children, in the hopes of making their lives brighter. There is no funding granted to children with a developmental disability such as autism or Down syndrome.

Make-A-Wish Foundation of Canada
Any child, between the ages of 3 and 17 with life-threatening illnesses may be referred.

Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation
This charity grants dreams to children who are challenged by severe physical disabilities or life threatening illnesses.

Sunshine Dreams for Kids
This charity grants dreams to children who are challenged by severe physical disabilities or life threatening illnesses.

The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada
The Children's Wish Foundation is about dignity, about dreams come true, about quality of life in situations where life is, by virtue of its finite terms, so much more precious. Children are eligible from 3 years of age and over, but under the age of 18 years when the request is received. They must be legal residents of Canada and have an illness, which is categorized as a high-risk, life threatening condition.

Respite services provide temporary relief to families of children and youth with special needs. While parents get a well-deserved break, young people with special needs have the opportunity to engage with peers and adults outside of their family in meaningful activities.
